Should your sales team be booking their own appointments?

If you have a business development manager or sales team, there is an age-old debate. Should they be booking their own appointments?

There are two schools of thought on this:

1. Yes they should – when the sales team are not out at appointments, they should be sat at their desks booking new meetings for them to go to.

1. No, they shouldn’t – actually booking the appointment is a completely different skill and never the twain should meet.

Whichever school of thought you subscribe to, the reality is that business development managers and sales teams are pretty rubbish at booking their own appointments. They tend not to like this side of the job, preferring instead to do what they’re naturally good at – seeing potential leads.
