We have turned down a couple of clients over the past few days. We don’t like to turn down clients for obvious reasons but they wanted to work with us for a lot lower than our normal fees.
But here’s the reason that we turned them down.
It wasn’t because we didn’t like them or felt we couldn’t do a good job for them; it was because we didn’t want to compromise on quality.
We could have compromised, but that doesn’t do anyone any favours.
We could have said things like ‘for this campaign, we won’t use emails’ or ‘for this campaign, we won’t use LinkedIn, we’ll just use telemarketing’. In other words, we could have cut out some of the marketing techniques we normally use.
But who would have benefited?
Not the client – who would have been angry and disappointed that we hadn’t got the results they wanted because we compromised on quality.
Not us – who would have disappointed a client, experienced their wrath and been annoyed with ourselves because we shouldn’t have compromised in the first place.
So, we turned both of these clients down…and we think it was the right decision.
Our fees aren’t outrageous, but they aren’t cheap either. But we feel they’re fair for the results we get and the work we need to do to get those results.
